What
We Do

Brainstorm Productions is one of Australia’s most experienced and respected educational theatre companies, performing to over 260,000 students every year. Our live performances inspire and empower students to build resilience and positive connections.

Our Story

Brainstorm Productions was founded 40 years ago by a teacher and school counsellor, both university lecturers in education and the performing arts. We have since maintained a reputation for delivering high quality performances that are engaging, challenging and relevant for young audiences.

Our team is committed to bringing about positive social change through theatre, empowering students with practical strategies to enhance their mental health, resilience and wellbeing. Each performance is followed by a Q&A and curriculum-aligned classroom resources, designed to support your school’s existing wellbeing, cyber safety and anti bullying programs. We are a trusted name in educational theatre, delivering evidence-based content developed in consultation with educators, students and a clinical psychologist. Of the teachers who completed program evaluations in 2019, 2020 and 2021, 100% said they would recommend Brainstorm Productions to other schools.

Brainstorm’s head office is located on Bundjalung Land. We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of all the lands on which we operate. We pay our respects to their Elders, past, present and emerging, and acknowledge the contributions and unique storytelling traditions of the oldest living culture in the world.

Our Values

Our performances inspire students to enact positive change in their school and online communities, encouraging empathy, respect, compassion and social responsibility. We employ professional young actors with a shared vision for student wellbeing, who are excellent role models. We are proudly independent and unfunded, with a focus on creating stories that are responsive to the changing needs of Australian students. We believe a genuine care for children and young people is central to our success.

Brainstorm supports a range of charities, including OXFAM, UNICEF, UNHCR, WWF Australia, Youth Off the Streets, Amnesty International, Salvation Army and Medecins Sans Frontieres Australia. We are committed to sustainability in all aspects of our work – our Northern NSW office is powered by solar energy, all marketing material is printed on recycled paper and we offset our vehicle emissions with Green Fleet. We also contribute to a more sustainable future by bringing the performances to our audiences.

Brainstorm Productions is a
Child Safe Organisation

The safety and wellbeing of children and young people is central to everything we do here at Brainstorm Productions. The primary aim of our organisation is to empower children, and to engage and educate them about their rights, how to express their feelings and needs, and how to access support if they feel unsafe.

We are committed to creating a child safe and child-friendly environment where children feel safe and have fun while enjoying a live performance. The welfare of the children in our audiences will always be our first priority and we have a zero-tolerance approach to child abuse and harm. We value the voices of children and will act on safety concerns raised by children or their families.

Brainstorm Productions values diversity and equity for all children. We work to create an environment where children’s diverse circumstances and needs are recognised, and all children feel welcome and included.
