Research shows that one in five Australian young people aged 12 to 17 have been the target of cyber bullying. While Brainstorm Productions have been touring their student wellbeing programs for over 30 years, their first cyber safety theatre productions started touring in 2003 (yes, before Facebook!). In the beginning Brainstorm Productions had two eSafety programs that tackled issues surrounding MySpace, text messaging and e-mail bullying.

Over time this has developed into a wide-range of shows tackling cyber bullying, how to stay safe using different forms of online technology and social media sites, keeping personal information private, reporting cyber bullying, how to balance online time, online gaming and chatting, digital reputation, sexting, offensive online behaviour, digital citizenship, trolling and the serious risks of unwanted contact with strangers; with Brainstorm Productions programs reaching over 350,000 students every year.

Brainstorm Productions dedication and commitment to tackling cyber bullying has recently been acknowledged by the Australian Government’s new Office of the Children’s eSafety Commissioner. As one of the first organisations in Australia to receive full certification, schools now have even greater certainty and confidence when choosing Brainstorm Productions online safety education programs.

The new eSafety certification program required Brainstorm Productions and their theatre productions for schools to meet four key criteria’s including the capacity to deliver online safety programs; appropriate program content; ability to evaluate and review performance and experience in presenting online safety programs.

With such a rigorous certification process, schools can engage with Brainstorm Productions school shows knowing that they meet the Office of the Children’s eSafety Commissioner‘s high standards. Brainstorm Productions also works closely with the Office of the Children’s eSafety Commissioner including regular training sessions covering the latest developments in online safety issues for children.

Cyber Bullying

So how can the Office of the Children’s eSafety Commissioner help your students or child with cyber bullying?

The Office of the Children’s eSafety Commissioner can help children and young people make a complaint, find someone to talk to and provide advice and strategies for dealing with cyber bullying issues. They can also get serious cyber bullying material removed from social media sites by working with schools and the police to help make cyber bullying stop.

As a certified provider of the Office of the Children’s eSafety Commissioner, details on how the office can assist are provided at the end of each Brainstorm Productions school show.

Brainstorm Productions range of eSafety programs are designed to provide age appropriate tools and strategies for the following key areas:

  • Cyber bullying and online safety
