The Bullying No Way: National Week of Action is Australia’s key bullying prevention initiative, running this year from 12 to 16 August. Bullying No Way Week connects schools and communities to find workable solutions to prevent bullying.

Formally the National Day of Action, the Bullying No Way: National Week of Action gives schools and supporters flexibility to plan activities that suit their schedule, whether that’s sharing messages throughout the week or focusing on one or two days.

This year's theme: Everyone Belongs

The theme for Bullying No Way Week 2024 is ‘Everyone belongs’.

When everyone feels like they belong, bullying struggles to find a place. This year’s theme encourages students to embrace who they are, respect each other’s differences and stand up to bullying and unkindness in all its forms.

It’s important for students to understand that they all have a role in preventing bullying, and their voices and actions matter. By speaking up, reporting bullying, being an upstander and seeking help from trusted adults, all students can help to create a safe place where everyone feels valued, and everyone belongs.

How to get your school involved in Bullying No Way Week 2024

There are many ways that schools can get involved and create a sense of belonging during the National Week of Action:

  1. Set a daily focus: Bullying No Way has created a series of five videos exploring evidence-based strategies for improving the sense of belonging in your school community. These include challenging stereotypes, promoting empathy, embracing diversity, fostering positive relationships and providing support.
  2. Download classroom resources: Bullying No Way offers free classroom resources that can be used during the National Week of Action and all through the year, to grow positive connections and create a sense of belonging among your students. The eSafety Commissioner also has lots of great classroom resources to help prevent cyberbullying and build safe and respectful online experiences.
  3. Join an online event: On Friday 16 August Kids Helpline will host Australia’s Largest Anti-Bullying Lesson for high schools. This free online event will be run by a Kids Helpline counsellor and is designed to empower students with practical tips for bullying prevention and help-seeking. The eSafety Commissioner will also be hosting a series of virtual classroom webinars during the National Week of Action.
  4. Get creative: Encourage your students to think of new and creative strategies to prevent bullying at their school. You could ask them to create an anti-bullying poster, a social media post or a video campaign that showcases their own ideas for building a more inclusive school community. You could also start a suggestion box, make wrist bands or create a message chain to collect your students’ ideas and ensure everyone has a voice.
  5. Plan special activities: The National Week of Action is a perfect opportunity to arrange fun and inclusive events in your school communities that help to raise awareness and build stronger connections, like BBQs, morning teas, fundraising events, presentations and performances.
